The recently expanded CariCOOS High-Frequency radar network is composed of a pair of 13 MHz and 5 MHz antennas which transmit and receive low-power frequency modulated signals that are reflected back towards the coast by radially propagating surface waves. These backscattered signals are processed to obtain the underlying currents in the ocean surface. Four stations located along the southwestern part of the island where made possible by local collaborators which, allowed for installation of the antenna setups. Radar stations FURA, CDDO, PYFC and FARO are located in the Añasco FURA facilities, Club Deportivo del Oeste, Ponce Yacht and Fishing Club and Cabo Rojo lighthouse respectively. Together they provide near real-time ocean surface current measurements for the Mona Passage and up to 100 km off the southwestern part of Puerto Rico at a 6 Km spatial resolution. Additional technical support is provided by the Rutgers University Center for Ocean Observing Leadership (RUCOOL).
